I’ve mentioned Julia, my team leader at work, who uses a lot of big words. Here is another installment of words I’ve learned from her:

pro rata
cogitation
expostulate
vituperative
bolshie/bolshy (stroppy, showing signs of revolting; from Bolshevic)
conflate
imprecation
Michelin man
sussed out (slang for ‘figured out’)
w00t (hackerese used to express joy. Maybe it is wow + loot or wow + hoot)
hackerese (Internet slang)
rickrolled

But as if to add some balance, another young colleague, who comments in this blog by the name Raoul, uses some words that I am unfamiliar with too, such as:

spaz out (go mental)
gargantuan
muggy
munted (slang for mashed/broken/messy)
discombobulate (Raoul’s ultimate word to use)
wuss (weakling/wimp/sissy)
shonky (dubious, not good quality)
naff (unfashionable/uncool/lame)
nong (a bit of a twit, or idiot) I am rather more familiar with this word now, sigh!

How good is your vocabulary?
