When the time came, Jesus gave Himself up to be killed. After He went through a series of mock trials, He was crucified. From the predawn hours of that day, He had been mocked, beaten, and spat upon. At the stroke of noon, something happened. It was as if God covered the sun. Thick darkness covered the land. All that the Lord Jesus had endured up to that point paled in contrast to what was to happen next. It was time for God to deal with this Man on whom was heaped the sins of mankind. This is where my sin was dealt with.
Many hands were raised to wound Him,
None would interpose to save;
But the deepest stroke that pierced Him
Was the stroke that Justice gave.
(Thomas Kelly)Died He for me, who caused His pain—
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
(Charles Wesley)Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matt 27:45-46)
Thank you, Nahomi! Only God could have conceived such a master plan, that we will sing about forever! “It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.” (Romans 3:26).
